Calliste Government School

Home About Our story

Our story

More than fifty years in Calliste, through a hurricane, a new library and a new block, with friends across Grenada helping along the way.

  1. Our school opens

Calliste Government School begins teaching the children of the community.

  2. Hurricane Ivan

After the storm, a wooden building on our grounds stayed in use for about twenty years, until the work on its replacement began.

  3. Our library opens

A 625 square foot reading room with more than 1,000 books, built by GND Schools Inc. with a grant through GRENLEC.

  4. Ground broken for a new block

The Ministry of Education turned the first sod for a concrete building on the site of the old wooden one.

  5. Fresh paint

Twenty-five volunteers from Republic Bank repainted 14 classrooms and the restrooms over two days.

The plans shown at the groundbreaking are for a two-storey concrete building, made to stand up to a Category 4 hurricane.
